Traditional Porridge

Prep Time:

30 minutes

Makes:

4 Servings

Ingredients

1/2 cup organic steel cut oats
2 cups of pure water
large pinch of Himalayan salt
sprinkle of sea salt flakes to finish

Preparation

  • Soak the steel cut oats in the water overnight, but bring to a boil first. Note: This recipe is          specifically created for Canadian-grown oats.

  • In the morning, put the soaked oats and the Himalayan salt into a medium saucepan and bring to a boil while stirring constantly with a spurtle.

  • Add more water a little at a time, as required, for a creamy porridge. Reduce the heat to low/medium so that you have a slow rolling boil. Cook for at least 30 minutes.

  • Taste test for the consistency you'd like as you may need to cook a few more minutes with a little more water.

  • Serve the hot porridge with a sprinkle of finishing sea salt flakes, to taste. Finishing with sea salt flakes offers natural iodine and many trace elements that land salts do not.

Note: This recipe works best with course steel cut oats.

Enjoy your delicious and healthy bowl of Canadian-grown organic steel cut oats porridge!
